BOROUGH HEROES WINNERS

What a fantastic evening at the NuL Borough Heroes Awards!

Huge congratulations to the winners:

BOROUGH HEROES AWARDS NIGHT

I am on the train back from Westminster and looking forward to attending the Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Heroes Awards tonight.

Finalists in four categories are attending a ceremony at Castle House where the results will be unveiled.

DEFENCE SURVEY

Fill out this quick survey to share your thoughts on defence spending and foreign aid.

DEFENCE SPENDING BOOSTED

The Prime Minister has announced a game-changing increase in our defence budget, which will now reach 2.5% of GDP by 2030. That's a whopping £75 billion injection over the next six years.

CARDIAC RISK IN THE YOUNG

Today, I had the privilege of reconnecting with my constituent David Hughes from Bignall End, here in Westminster! He's been tirelessly dedicated to Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) since the heart-breaking loss of his son Daniel to an undiagnosed heart condition in March 2015.

BRADWELL WEST QUARRY - OBJECTION

In light of the story in today's Sentinel, which I know will worry constituents, I would now like to make public my letter, which I sent to Staffordshire County Council in July of last year, objecting to planning permission on a quarry next to the A500.

ST GEORGE’S DAY PARADE

Great to see Newcastle under Lyme District Scouts parading through the town centre prior to a service at St Giles’s, which they have kindly invited me to.

St George’s Day itself is this Tuesday. Do you think it should be a bank holiday?

WHAT ON EARTH

I enjoyed some time with my family at Keele University this afternoon exploring Appetite’s “What on Earth” - a two-day event in celebration of Earth Day 2024.

We had a tour of the observatory, made durodango (Japanese mud balls!) and planted some poetry (written on seed paper).

BEST FOOD COMPETITION

Newcastle has lots of great places to eat and I want to celebrate them, as I have done recently with our shops and market stalls.

So I am delighted to announce this week I am launching my Newcastle's Best Food Competition.

The nominations are being divided into three categories:

QUEEN'S SCULPTURE MAKING PROGRESS

Leader of the Council, Simon Tagg, met up again today with artist Andy Edwards who has been commissioned to sculpt the statue of our late Queen Elizabeth II for the Queens Gardens. The detail is looking amazing!
