Last week, I raised the issue of the local Barclays Bank branch closures in a Westminster debate.
Since news broke of the Barclays Bank closures in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Kidsgrove, I have been working closely with Jonathan Gullis MP and Barclays to find a suitable solution.
You may have seen that on 14th May, Jonathan and I convened an urgent meeting with Barclays to discuss our concerns about local branch closures and ensure customers affected can be supported.
In response, Barclays said that they intend to have a presence in Newcastle town centre five days a week, where Barclays staff will be on site to give face to face support and advice.
I would encourage affected customers to vote with their feet as we still have a number of banks offering traditional counter service in the centre of town. Moving your bank account (together with standing orders, direct debits etc.) has never been easier, thanks to Government action.
