This year marks The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, so it was great to join Layla, Sophie, Daniel, Oliver and Jared who are all members of Hempstalls Primary's Eco Club and plant a tree as part of the The Queen's Green Canopy Project.
Everyone from schools to individuals, Scout and Girl guiding groups, villages and corporates have been encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees as part of the project.
With a focus on planting sustainably, the Queen's Green Canopy encourages planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of Her Majesty’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.
A great idea as part of this initiative is that each tree has a tag with a number on it, so the pupils feel they have ‘their’ own tree, which in the years to come will help them remember this scheme and the specific tree they feel is their tree. The tree we planted was an apple tree so they should also be able to get some fruit as an added health benefit.
The Lead Deputy Lieutenant from Staffordshire County Council Mr Pritpal Nagi, was also in attendance.
Thank you to Acting Head Teacher Ms Julie Hemmings for allowing us to plant the tree on the schools grounds.
