It gives me great pleasure to announce that Newcastle-under-Lyme has been successful in its Town Deal bid and has been awarded an incredible £23.6 million from central government.
This funding is to be allocated across nine separate projects (see link below), including improved public transport, better digital provision, walking and cycling measures to make access to the town centre better, the renovation of town centre gateway sites, and new investment into Knutton & Chesterton.
This money is in addition to the £11 million of investment previously secured from the Future High Streets Fund, which is to be used to demolish the old civic offices in Merrial Street, build both residential and commercial premises on the Ryecroft, and bolster the town’s shopping and leisure facilities.
As the town’s MP, I have been a member of the Town Deal Board and have persistently lobbied the government to secure our share of investment. I am therefore absolutely delighted that the town has now secured two substantial sums of money totalling almost £35 million! This represents one of the biggest public sector investments in the Borough’s history and will transform Newcastle-under-Lyme, making it an even better place for residents of all ages to live and work.
