Officers from Newcastle-under-Lyme Police Neighbourhood Policing Team are continuing to crackdown on anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Chesterton following concerns from residents.
Officers carried out an operation to tackle anti-social behaviour from 5pm on Friday (1 April) to 12am on Sunday (3 April). If this anti-social behaviour continues, further dispersal orders may also be enforced.
The power of these orders will enable officers to approach and disperse anyone aged 10 or over who has committed or is suspected of committing ASB, or likely to cause harassment and distress to others. Officers can order an individual or individuals to leave the area by the most appropriate means.
I am glad that the Police are engaging strongly on this issue - it is something I keep pushing with them after many local people have raised it with me. I am meeting with the new Borough Commander, Chief Inspector Laura Morrey, tomorrow, and will be stressing the importance of tackling ASB both in our town centre and across the Borough.
