Today I had the honour of swearing the oath of allegiance to King Charles III.
Members of both the House of Commons and House of Lords are required to swear in before they can take their seats at the start of a new Parliament after a general election. I first did this in December 2019.
However, MPs are currently swearing in as a symbolic gesture to mark the succession of King Charles, following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, re-affiriming our loyalty to our new monarch.
