I'm very pleased to announce that on Friday night I was re-adopted by Newcastle Conservatives as their candidate for the next General Election. I look forward to campaigning at that election, whenever it may be, and in the meantime I'll keep getting out and about, doing my job both down in London and here in Newcastle.
Here are my quotes from the press release:
“Being elected as a Member of Parliament by the people of Newcastle in December 2019 was the greatest honour of my life, and I have never taken the job nor the responsibility for granted.
“In the three years since that election, I am proud of the work I have done as an MP, including bringing millions of pounds of Government investment into Newcastle, and standing up for everybody affected by the scandal at Walley’s Quarry. That work will continue, together with a focus on the anti-social behaviour that I know concerns many of my constituents.
“The last few years have presented unexpected and unprecedented challenges to governments around the world. Here in the UK, I am proud of the support the Conservative Government has provided in the face of Covid and the sharp rise in energy prices provoked by the war in Ukraine.
"During the pandemic, we protected thousands of businesses and millions of jobs through furlough, and delivered a world-leading vaccine rollout to help us get back to normality. Now we have helped people through the cost-of-living crisis through our Energy Price Guarantee and through direct payments to the most vulnerable households.
“The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, recently set out his priorities for 2023, including halving inflation, growing the economy and reducing debt, tackling NHS waiting lists, and stopping the illegal immigration across the Channel.
"These are the right priorities – they are the same issues that constituents raise with me on the doorstep, and I look forward to supporting the Conservative government in delivering on these pledges in the year ahead.”
All the best, Aaron
