This morning the Science, Innovation and Technology Select Committee held a valedictory evidence session for Sir Patrick Vallance, who was previously the Government's Chief Scientific Adviser. You can watch the full session via the link.
Sir Patrick was Chief Scientific Adviser from April 2018 until he stepped down last month. His tenure was a very busy and difficult one, notably advising the Prime Minister and the Cabinet on the coronavirus pandemic. I am sure people will recognise him from the daily briefings he took part in at the time.
As part of the evidence session, I asked Sir Patrick about the origins of Covid-19, how to encourage more science graduates into the civil service, and the UK's space strategy.
Shortly afterwards, in the Chamber, I was grateful to catch the Speaker's eye during Science Questions to pay tribute to Sir Patrick.
