I was proud to raise the winners of my inaugural ‘Newcastle’s Best Local Shop and Market Stall’ competition today at PMQs.
The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak MP, agreed with me that small businesses and independent retailers bring huge benefits to our High Streets and our economy. I am pleased the Prime Minister congratulated the team at Anasma Greek Bakery. Mr Sunak also highlighted the Government’s £35 million investment into Newcastle-under-Lyme through the Town Deal and Future High Streets Fund.
In the local shop section of my competition, first place went to Anasma Greek Bakery, second place went to Mejoolies and third place went to Tony Price Quality Butchers. In the market stall element of my competition, the winner was Cheeky Cheesecakes. Certificates, House of Commons wine and chocolates were given to the winners and runners-up.
Anasma Greek Bakery opened in July 2021 in the centre of Newcastle and will be opening a second branch in Trentham soon.
Well done to the winners and runners-up once again. They deserve this recognition on the national stage.
