Congratulations to the new Mayor of Newcastle-under-Lyme for 2021-22, Councillor Ken Owen. He received the nomination and won the vote at the Borough's full Council meeting last night.
Ken has been elected as a Borough councillor twice, first from 2014-18 and then again in a 2019 by-election. He is a ward councillor for Holditch and Chesterton and is a member of the Newcastle Independent Group.
Ken said, “I am passionate about North Staffordshire, I’ve lived in Newcastle for 51 years and I love the place. I can’t think of a bigger honour than being the Mayor of Newcastle-under-Lyme.”
The Mayor's charities during his year in office will be the Tri Services and Veterans Support Centre. Registered charity 1159599, and the Royal British Legion in North Staffordshire.
I would also like to congratulate Conservative councillor Gill Burnett (Kidsgrove & Ravencliffe) on becoming Deputy Mayor, and to offer a huge thank you to the outgoing Mayor, Cllr John Cooper, for all the hard work he has done in the position in the last year, in the face of both the challenges of Covid and his personal bereavement.
