I am delighted to announce that I have joined the Government and been appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the ministerial team at the Ministry of Justice, under the Lord Chancellor Brandon Lewis MP.
PPSs are selected to be as the 'eyes and ears' of the ministerial team in the House of Commons. They act as a liaison between the Government department and other MPs, support the ministerial team and help administer departmental questions. They are also an important channel of communication from their Government department to Parliament as they explain their department’s policies to MPs.
This is a great honour and a fantastic opportunity under a Secretary of State who has made a strong start in the department. The Ministry of Justice is a major government department, at the heart of the justice system.
I am really looking forward to the challenge and to supporting our Ministers at Westminster. Constituents should rest assured that I don’t envisage this having any impact on my work in Newcastle-under-Lyme, not least in continuing to fight for justice and accountability over Walley’s Quarry.
