I was delighted to see the Government's £2.4 billion long-term plan for the NHS announced today.
Record numbers of doctors, nurses, dentists and other healthcare staff will be trained right here in the UK as part of the first ever Long-Term Workforce Plan. By 2037, there will be at least an additional:
170k nurses
60k doctors
71k healthcare professionals
To achieve this, the Government will invest in our future generation's education, offering thousands more medical school, GP and nursing training places. Not only that but existing staff in the NHS will be retained by making sure it remains a fulfilling and rewarding place to work. The NHS will also continue to harness advances in AI to ensure patients are treated using state-of-the-art technology.
This will reduce NHS waiting lists and allow our doctors and nurses to spend more time with their patients, offering the care they deserve.
