A parliamentary inquiry into the Mineworkers' Pension Scheme (MPS) and the Scheme’s surplus sharing arrangements is currently taking place.
I know that the MPS is a matter of interest to many in our coalfield communities as well as others across the country. Many Scheme members have criticised the surplus arrangements. They feel that the MPS is unfair in its current form.
That is why I am happy to support the campaign of my colleague, Lee Anderson MP. Lee is a former miner and is now Conservative MP for Ashfield, and he has written to the Chair of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Committee in response to the inquiry. His letter is included in the pictures below.
I have sent my own letter to the inquiry supporting Lee, and I hope this inquiry will help get things moving in the right direction for former mineworkers.
