It was very good to meet the new Commander of Newcastle Neighbourhood Policing Unit, Laura Morrey.
Commander and Chief Inspector Morrey has 19 years’ experience within Staffordshire Police and has taken up the role after a varied career across several different departments including working in CID, Response and Vulnerability.
We had a good catch up about the current issues of concern in the area.
I was very pleased to hear that her number one priority is tackling anti-social behaviour, especially in the town centre.
She & I both really want to encourage people to send any reports of ASB via digital 101 so the Police can get more data. This is the best way to report ASB and other non-emergency crimes, issues and incidents. It will be picked up on just as quickly as dialling 101. You can access digital 101 here: https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/ro/report/
Commander Morrey also updated me on the forthcoming Staffordshire Police restructuring under new Chief Constable Chris Noble. The restructuring will mean Response is run directly out of Newcastle, with 10 extra sergeants.
I am looking forward to working closely with Commander Morrey as she takes on her new role.
