I recently had the opportunity to speak with the School Council at Hempstalls Primary School.
During our meeting, the council members were eager to learn about my role as a Member of Parliament and the electoral process that led to my position. It turned out that they have all been elected too!
They showed genuine interest in understanding a typical day in my life, particularly highlighting the busy nature of my Fridays spent in the constituency.
In addition to their curiosity about my responsibilities, the students shared their insightful suggestions on how to enhance our town. Their ideas ranged from practical additions like a skate park to more ambitious projects such as a zoo and a museum of archaeology.
We spoke in depth of the importance of democracy and how we are lucky to live in an open and free society.
I would like to thank Miss Bell for extending the invitation to visit Hempstalls Primary School and to Ms Hemmings for organising such an engaging session with thought-provoking questions from the children.
