Today, I had the pleasure of attending the 150th Anniversary opening celebration of St Mary's Church, Knutton alongside Mayor Cllr Simon White and the Bishop of Stafford, Matthew Parker.
This weekend is going to be filled with further events, including a Service of Thanksgiving on Sunday at 10am and a parish service at 7pm on Monday 15th, which is the precise anniversary of its consecration in 1874. The church, adorned by its dedicated members and the local Brownies group, tells a vivid tale of Knutton's rich history and the pivotal role the church has played in the community.
I was delighted to be accompanied by students from St Mary’s CofE Academy, who contributed to the church's adornment. I also enjoyed my refreshments while marvelling at the exquisite floral and historical displays.
With an invitation extended to all, the church will be open all weekend and warmly welcomes visitors to delve into its rich heritage. I would encourage all local people to visit and explore the history their church has to offer. A heartfelt commendation goes out to Reverend John Alessi, Sue Sidebottom, and all the dedicated members of the congregation who have worked so hard to make this celebration a success.
