Today I asked the Immigration Minister how the Government is working to reduce immigration numbers to a more sustainable level.
Figures released today show that last year, net migration in the UK was 606,000. This was not as high as had been predicted and is partly due to the schemes for Ukrainians, Afghans and Hongkongers that I know command widespread support.
However I know that people expect us to have control over total numbers and I was pleased that the Immigration Minister, Robert Jenrick, agreed with me that the measures we have taken should result in a fall in future.
