Thousands of working parents of two-year-olds are now able to access 15 hours a week of government-funded childcare.
Here’s how it works
- From right now, working parents of 2-year-olds can get 15 hours a week of free childcare during term time.
- From 1 September, this will expand to cover children aged 9 months to 2 years.
And from September 2025, the 15 hours will increase to 30 hours a week.
- This means parents will get funded childcare from the end of parental leave until their child starts primary school.
That's an average saving of £6,900 per year.
But we’re also making sure the childcare sector is prepared to deliver it, by:
Increasing how much funding nurseries receive per child
Increasing the number of staff and childcare places
Boosting the recruitment and retention of childminders
