Recently, I was delighted to drop in to an event in Parliament, in support of the Dogs Trust's mission to end puppy smuggling.
The Animal Welfare (Import of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill brought forward by my colleague Selaine Saxby MP, MP for North Devon, had its 2nd reading on Friday and is one its way to becoming law. The Bill will close loopholes that allow some elements of the puppy smuggling trade to continue unabated.
Amongst a few other measures, this crucial Bill will help end illegal puppy imports, by raising the minimum import age to 6 months.
Puppy smuggling is a vile trade, that does untold harm to innocent animals, and I am proud we are bringing about an end to this shameful practice.
