On Wednesday morning, I had the honour of chairing the Science and Technology Committee. Our regular chair, Greg Clark MP, had other unavoidable Parliamentary business at the same time and the Committee elected me to chair the session.
This was the second session on our Committee's inquiry into the Governance of artificial intelligence (AI). The use of AI has increased significantly in recent years. The Government is expected to publish a policy document setting out their proposals for future legislation (a White Paper) on AI governance later this year to look at and address potential benefits and issues. We as a Committee have been examining the effectiveness of AI governance and the Government’s proposals.
In the session we took evidence from a number of big tech companies such as BT Google and Microsoft, as well as Professors from the University of Southampton and the University of Oxford.
