Today Newcastle-under-Lyme submits its business case for our £23.6 million Town Deal, which we were granted through the Government's Towns Fund.
There are nine projects on the Town Deal that will transform the town. These separate projects include improved public transport, better digital provision, walking and cycling measures to make access to the town centre better, the renovation of town centre gateway sites, and new investment into Knutton & Chesterton. More detail on the projects can be accessed here.
This morning at Transport Questions, I was grateful to the Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps MP, on welcoming Newcastle's Town Deal in general and specifically on the transport measures which include a new circular bus route and 40 electrical vehicle charging points in the town centre which will support 375 journeys to work each day by electric vehicles.
As the town’s MP, I have been a member of the Town Deal Board and have persistently lobbied the Government to secure our share of investment. I am happy to see the business case go in, which is another step towards making Newcastle-under-Lyme an even better place to live.
