With the Grand National tomorrow, I placed a complimentary charity bet at the Coral shop on the High Street. I took a tip from a friend - a shrewd horse racing judge whom I used to work with - and am backing Longhouse Poet, £25 each-way at 16/1.
If my pick comes through the winnings will go to helping Karl Stubbs set up his proposed Ukrainian hub, and if it doesn’t Coral will donate £100 towards it regardless.
Millions of people enjoy a flutter and the vast majority do so safely and responsibly. Grand National day has traditionally been the busiest day of the year in betting shops, with 3 million adults expected to bet on the race. The race is expected to generate £3m in tax revenues for the Treasury and £2m in horse racing levy to support the sport.
