The Home Secretary today brought forward the Economic Crime (Transparency and Enforcement) Bill. The Bill is expected to be proceed through Commons by the end of today, which is quite rare for legislation but shows the Government's urgency to counter illicit financial activity from Russia.
Earlier I raised in House of Commons the possibility of adapting some of the Titles Deprivation Act 1917 to potentially remove peerages from those Lords who have adhered to the Putin regime.
The Titles Deprivation Act 1917 was used to withdraw peerages from peers who gave succour to Germany in the first world war after a proper investigation by the Privy Council.
I am glad to hear the Government will rule nothing out.
