The Church of England answer questions in the House of Commons via an MP who represents the Church Commissioners - who is at present my colleague Mr Andrew Selous.
I asked him today to confirm that the Church of England is taking steps to support the Government’s plans to ban so-called "conversion therapy".
The suggestion that being LGBT can be “cured” is both morally and medically wrong and the concept of conversion therapy has no place in our society. Being lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans is not an illness to be treated or cured.
The Prime Minister remains committed to stopping any harmful practice in this area, whilst maintaining freedom of speech and not criminalising clergy or Church members for non-coercive pastoral support that individuals may ask for if they are coming to terms with their identity or orientation.
