Last weekend marked Newcastle's 30 years of success with Britain in Bloom.
Maureen Wilson and Graham Green, and Donna Thorley, were the respective joint winners of the Judges’ Choice Award in the hotly-contested residential category of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s annual gardening competition.
Residents submitted digital entries for the first time. The awards are important to the Borough and bring the people of Newcastle together in healthy competition, making it a better place to live and work.
Not only did Newcastle-under-Lyme win a nineteenth consecutive gold award in the small city category of Heart of England in Bloom this year, it gained several discretionary awards:
Horticultural excellence – Queen’s Gardens, Newcastle
Environmental award – Silverdale Community Country Park
Grounds maintenance award – Newcastle town centre roundabouts and public art
Community achievement – Silverdale Mining Memorial
Health and well-being – Amanda Stevenson, Lisbon Court, Clayton
What fantastic results! Congratulations to all the winners and huge thanks to everyone who entered.
